Glenn and Sue Reed's Tabletop Layout Gallery

Club members Glenn and Sue Reed recently remodeled their kitchen and wanted something to provide a unique dining experience.  Along with the help of fellow member Zeke Sampson, they constructed a rather unusual N scale layout that is embedded in the kitchen table top.  A glass cover protects the layout and provides a surface that is entirely usable.  Must be a great way to get them away from their main layout to take meals, don't you think?  Below are several shots of various parts of this fascinating, custom layout.

The tail end of an early-era German passenger train rounds one of the four main curves.  A working farm and several Swiss-style chalets can be seen in this view.

The passenger train stops in front of the main station named "Reedküche" which, when literally translated, means "Reed Kitchen" in German.  Passengers are waiting on the platform to board.  Notice the detail included in the greenhouse scene and the stones that keep the chalet roofs in place.

The roof and pantograph of a yellow rail bus can be seen approaching the station from the opposite direction on another track.

Several shots from various angles on the layout highlight the detail.  The harvest is in plenty on the farm.  Note the boulders on the roof of each of the houses.  This is typical of homes in the Alps to keep roofing materials in place during the harsh winters.

A few final aerial views of the layout showing the elevated track crossing.  Glenn, Sue and Zeke put a lot of effort into making this tabletop layout a real attention-getter.  Must be difficult to eat dinner with so much to observe!

Just so you know, Glenn and Sue also have an impressive HO scale layout in their home.  In the shot above, a beer train attempts to make an unscheduled delivery to a pub in town, and is rear-ended by a through freighter???
