Chapter Activities

Join the Chapter…

We cordially extend this invitation to you to join European Train Enthusiasts (ETE). This club was founded in February of 1973 with the intention of bringing together all of us who are interested in the railroads of Europe. We desire by our association to share our ideas and interests, problems, and skills, and thus to find mutual support and encouragement. Membership is open to anyone genuinely interested in European railroading, either in model or prototype. Our membership is comprised of individuals who have a wide diversity of sub-interests within the hobby of European railroading. We have members who enjoy modeling (in all scales, both AC and DC), video and still railroad photography (both production and enjoyment), European railroad travel, collecting, trading, and modular model railroading.

As a member of ETE, you will also receive our quarterly journal “ETE Express”, published by our national organization. You will find articles on many facets of our hobby as well as news and updates on the activities of local ETE chapters. Most of the articles in the ETE Express are contributed by members, and you will often find knowledgeable contributors who share your specific sub-interests within the hobby. Many of these fellow members are eager to offer assistance in their particular field of expertise. ETE periodically distributes to its members a complete listing of our national membership.

As a national member of ETE, you are also eligible to join any local chapters of your choice. The Eastern New England Chapter was organized and chartered in June, 2000. At the present time, we have almost seventy (70) members residing throughout New England and beyond. Normally, we hold monthly meetings of the entire chapter. These meetings are held in the homes of members and at other sites, such as train dealers, public shows, museums, and libraries, that offer facilities which promote our mutual interests. A meeting will typically consist of a brief business meeting, an educational presentation or demonstration by one of our members or a guest, and a hands-on workshop session. Other activities may include viewing videos or slides of different railroads in Europe, enjoying the operations of a host’s European model railroad layout, or listening to a guest speaker describe some aspect of European railroading or travel. Most importantly, the meetings provide an opportunity to meet, become acquainted, and share information with other individuals who have a mutual interest in our hobby.

We also display Public Information and our Modular Model Railroad Layout at a number of model railroad shows throughout New England in the course of the year, in order to further public awareness of European railroads and model railroading. Our exhibits often include operating layouts in N scale, H0 scale, and 1 scale, and are controlled both conventionally and by computer. Our members contribute their time and share their expertise to help others get started in European model railroading and assist more advanced hobbyists in solving problems.

To join as a new member of both the national ETE organization and our Eastern New England Chapter, simply download, print and fill out the Membership Application, then send it along with your check  to Barry Kriegsman, our Chapter President.  We look forward to seeing you!
